the ABC’s of mindful meditation
when you hear the words “mindfulness” or “meditation” do visions of a monk on a mountaintop come to mind?
or maybe you’ve thought “my mind is already too full and there’s no way I can turn off my brain”(spoiler alert: you don’t have to, and in fact, that’s not even the objective)
The practice of being mindful is really about paying attention—noticing what is actually happening in the moment. When we don’t pay attention, we spend most of our time unintentionally reviewing or revisiting the past, or planning or plotting for the future, meaning we totally miss out on being in the present.
When we are in the “now”, our brains and bodies are less anxious, we make better decisions and show up more fully for the people and things we care about the most.
how do you start to cultivate mindfulness?
Think of your mind as a muscle, and mindfulness practice as a far-less-sweaty and very satisfying workout for your awareness. The result is less anxiety, clearer thinking, better sleep and improved overall well-being.
